The point (x, y) values reported in the data export are pixel units in the subject image pixels, not what is displayed to the volunteer. So if your uploaded images are consistently the same size in pixels AND the placement of the spectrogram on the image is consistent then you do not need to change your ymin and ymax by subject or volunteer.

If your placement of the spectrogram frequency axis varies relative to the image borders you have an issue that can not be resolved except by knowing the frequency origin's position and scale in each subject. I would be very surprised if this is the case - I would expect the way you converted the spectrograms to subject images was consistent and ymin, fmin and ymax, fmax are the same for all your subjects.

On a quick look it appears your images are 2107X1719 pixels with ymin = 1527 and ymax = 127 (within +-1 pixel) If ALL your images have been produced in a consistent way and are the same size and placement then

freq <- (100 - (y-127)* 100/1400)) or more simply (100 - (y-127)/14)) (To verify, check y = 127 gives frequency = 100, y = 1527 gives frequency = 0)

Again where "y" is the y value of the reported points in the export for each classification.

This should be fixed now, thanks for bringing it to our attention!

The x,y pixel values for drawn marks should be in a coordinate frame that’s independent of screen size, where the top left corner is (0,0) and the bottom right corner is (naturalWidth, naturalHeight).

naturalWidth and naturalHeight are the intrinsic pixel width and height of each image, and should be included with each classification. They’re constant for every subject.

Each classification should also include clientWidth and clientHeight. Those are the pixel width and height of the image as it was shown on the screen, and can vary from one volunteer to another.

@Pmason, Yes, you're correct. That was just a poor choice of variable names on my part.
The more proper notation would be:

#R code to translate points to real-world frequency values
ymin<-1041.521
ymax<-86.21665
fmin<-0
fmax<-100

Function to map pixel value to kHz (0 to 100)
pixel_to_kHz <- function(x) {
freq <- ((y -ymin) / (ymax - ymin)) * (fmax-fmin) +fmin
return(freq)
}

Now that I've collected data from a variety of users, it seems like we don't have consistent image viewing parameters. I'm guessing the "ymin" and "ymax" variables are different for different users, is that correct?

I'm not sure how to account for different screen sizes when translating pixels to actual frequency values. Do you have any guidance?

Ah, thanks! I hadn't noticed that popup had a title.

Since, as reported earlier in this discussion, imgur is a hassle (or worse) to use, I agree with the Zooniverse's choice to remove it from the info in that popup. I think the current text is as good as can be expected ("you need to find a suitable image hosting service."). If a volunteer or project team discovers a site that works well and is easy to use, the Zooniverse might consider adding that site to the popup. However, it seems there is no obvious alternative for hosting images people want to post on talk.

Yes, thank you from me too.

Ha, this is another change I hadn't noticed. But in this case I know why. Very early on after the new version of the personal home and stats pages launched, I bookmarked the page showing my All Projects / All Time stats, and haven't gone to the default page since then.

I got a newsletter yesterday for a new project, Cameras for Conservation. The project shows with a check mark and has lots of unretired subjects and is getting lots of classifications. But it is not on the Active (or other) tab of the Zooniverse Projects menu. Why not?

I expect this is something the project team omitted to do or did wrong. If I knew what they had to do to fix this, I would have posted instructions on the project's talk page.

Hi,
@ Shaun A. Noordin(darkeshard)
imgur is no more cited in "Guide to commenting in Talk"

Image ![description of image] (https://static.zooniverse.org/pfe-assets/simple-avatar.png)
Images must already be uploaded. For new images, you need to find a suitable image hosting service.

The trouble now is about having links to "images" which disappear on the imgur home page. We only have "posts" . I can't have a link like previous "i.imgur" which was used to upload images in zooniverse posts.
The only solution I found was to post the link to imgur post. That's not very convenient for browsing.
Looking forward having a better procedure or recommendation ; Thanks

Another recent tweak: The personal stats page now defaults to "All time" instead of "Last 7 days". Volunteers' preferences may still vary, but my own carpal tunnels are grateful. 👍 Thank you!

Wow! Thanks Sean. I totally missed that option. This great, really helpful.

Interesting but trivial: When I press See All and look at the "top" view, I see 31 projects. But when I change to the "all" "recent" view, I see 30 projects. For me, 30 is correct; the "all" "recent" view doesn't show the hallucinated one classification in Serengeti Wildlife Watch, a project I never classified in.

May 13th 2025, 3:55 pm

@am.zooni This is now possible! There are two ways you can get to the new All Projects page:

Click See All next to Continue Classifying, or from within your stats pages, press See All from next to Top Projects.

Then you can sort by Top or Recent. Enjoy!

You rang? Projects going into Paused BEFORE subject completion: https://www.zooniverse.org/talk/17/3046186?comment=5005893&page=1

Also, ICYMI, "Nice change, showing "finished" or "paused" on project tiles in the Top Projects list on our personal stats page.", from me on 23 April, here: https://www.zooniverse.org/talk/2354/3326062?comment=5990995

While I'm here, I'll repeat something else I said in that comment: "It would be even better to see those projects listed with most-recently-classified first."

I just noticed today that the homepage puts different coloured banners on the project tiles for Paused and Finished. Nice and handy.
I love this ❤️

Only one small issue (I'm sorry): The rounding issue on the push to Paused status is ongoing, so people are even less likely to finished off those last few subjects as it's more obvious the project is in paused.
The issue occurs on projects with a larger number of subjects when their completion gets to 99.9996% Floating Forests has that issue now.
I can't find the thread where we recorded the projects which did this (NfN often has this). I've never understood why the Paused code uses the completion % rather than just comparing total subject (less practise subjects) against retired subjects.

I’ve got an open pull request that fixes that.

https://github.com/zooniverse/front-end-monorepo/pull/6699

I’m not sure what the timeframe would be for someone from Zooniverse to take a look, but I think they’re aware that this is a problem.

Pinging @support to take a look.
