Hello everyone! I know this was an older post, but it seems like people are still commenting on it... My name is Riley and I've been classifying with Zooniverse since Condor Watch and Cyclone Center were active. I am pretty much always classifying on the animal projects, because I love animals, and classifying gives me experience identifying them that I wouldn't otherwise have, not to mention that helping the projects is also helping the animals, and humans. Thank you Zooniverse, and all the workers and volunteers who have built this amazing network of people, from all over the world and with all kinds of backgrounds, to do research and to work together for a better future.
Can someone suggest a good tutorial video or two that explain NED Database (and other) queries? I want to better understand how to interpret what the query results are telling me in context of multiple galaxies within the same frame and in the process of collisions. Thanks!
Please allow me to introduce myself,
I'm a man of wealth and taste...
(Sorry, I had to )
Just gotten back into the Zooniverse after a multi-year break thanks to work and a subsequent burnout and job loss. Originally learned about this project via a certain Oxford-based astrophysicist's YouTube channel, and it was a recent video on that channel that provided the kick up the rear that I needed to get stuck in again. On that note, I'm looking forward to getting involved in more astrophysics-related projects, after all, this is a nerd's dream!
Think about how many time zones there are. Then there is the switch to and from Daylight Saving Time / Summer Time: some countries (or parts of countries) change on a different date than others, and some don't change at all. So the Zooniverse would have to know what time zone you are in, and also what country (or smaller region) you are in. And people in a place that changes time from winter to summer will have one 23 hour day and one 25 hour day each year. And what about people who travel from one time zone to another: how would the Zooniverse calculate the start and end of their day? And what about people that use VPNs or other ways to make their internet connection look like it's coming from a different location from where they actually are?
This suggestion sounds good on the surface but it opens a huge can of worms. The stats are accurate. They are just using a different time window than you are used to. It's not difficult at all to get used to thinking of your stats in terms of the "Zooniverse day" (i.e., UTC). Lots of people who interact with people in other time zones for their work or for social interaction do this routinely. You can learn to do it too: I bet you won't find it difficult if you think of it that way.
Hi @RosemaryBN2. Welcome. I'll leave point 1 for others to address but
press Done&Talk rather than Done. That takes you to a page where you may enter a comment related to the classification you just submitted. But you can return to classifying without leaving a comment. Although I do comment often, I use Done&Talk far more, to allow me to "take a breath" (or make a cup of tea or whatever, as needed) without feeling any pressure to continue classifying immediately.
"Invert colors" is available to all projects. Each project team has the option to turn it on or off for each workflow. If you classify in a project or workflow that doesn't offer Invert colors and you feel it will be helpful, post a comment on the project's talk page asking the project team to turn it on.
Fairly new here - I'm Rosemary and I live in Brighton, UK, as UK residents may have guessed from the postcode on the username.
My sister has been doing things with Zooniverse for some time, I understand. Sadly, she died recently, but I have found my way here in her place.
A couple of suggestions to feed in, as a fairly-new person round here:
it would be really good tohave a "save work so far and come back later" facility. Some don't need this, I agree - Nature SPAM filter doesn't, clearly! - but others, like transcribing lots of lists of lichens, it would be really helpful. I can't always do the whole of a long letter in one go, and have the choice either of saving what I've done so far, and never going back to finish it; or leaving it up their on my browser page and the browser open on it till I have time to do some more. The former is less than satisfactory to me, and the latter rather error-prone.
Whenever I finish one item, the next one pops up automatically. Would it be possible to have a box "Would you like to do some more now?" - after finishing a long letter, for example, or every so often after a batch of quick items.
Again this may relate more to some of the transcribing letters, etc than the projects about identifying birds in the beach nature reserve - but would it be possible to have "invert colours" more widely? - that is, to change the screen to be white letters on black background. For some of us (!! - like me) this can be much easier on the eyes, as well as being able to switch may help with hard-to-read bits. Not all projects have those, though, and it would be nice to have them in some more places; can they be made more common?
But apart from those - am enjoying getting stuck in!
Just joined yesterday, still figuring out how it works. I've joined a project but it seems to keep showing the same slides every time I open it. I don't know how to join groups or even edit my profile picture, may take me some time to figure out. Very interested in Astronomy, Physics, and science in general, but have to brush up on my math and/or enroll on some courses to be of major help, but I'll do what I can. Glad to be here!
Hi, I am just wondering if someone knows where all the classifications I have done previously have disapeared to?
I can't find any records of the projects I have done before, which was quite a lot.
I haven't been on for a while but I didn't expect all my stats to be wiped out!! really mad,
Hello everyone,
I'm a househusband and tailor, I've always had a love of science and volunteering so I'm happy to be contributing. I have a passion for creatures great and small, living and extinct, with my favourites being fireflies, golden tortoise beetles and cats in the living catergory, with stegosaurus and hallucingenia in the extinct.
I'm currently working in a project identifying spoonbill tags and classifying stars, the latter is a little out of my wheelhouse but I'm interested!
Hi everyone,
I'm a student beginning my first year of license in a college named UFR STGI in Montbéliard ( FRANCE).
Registered since few months, I take pleasure to practice, my English comprehension (mostly learning comprehension) even if I need some time a dictionary .
Especially this is the occasion for keeping an eye of scientific experiment and training my rigor by testing the project who catch my eye.
Found this site through research on my planet classification project, happy to contribute towards finessing the current labels of transits! Would like to carry on with as many projects as possible while having the time
I knew about the Listen Zooniverse, but the Zooniverse Activity is a new one to me !
Love it !
Thanks Jim

cheers Carol

Still cant see previous projects, but never mind,

If you're on the home page, try clicking on 'All Time' in the box at the top. By default, it only shows the last 7 days worth of activity.
