You're quite welcome. Best of luck and thanks for supporting Zooniverse as a volunteer.

The Zooniverse team has not been available to act as assessor as far as I know- they are extremely busy. Zooniverse project teams are in a similar situation- lack of time. In case you are involved in the Duke of Edinburgh association, have a look at the D of E page on finding an assessor (linked below). While it can't be a family member, but can be almost anyone else. I encourage you to find someone you know to act as assessor.
Choosing Assessors

If you are involved with some other organization, try to find someone locally for ease of function. For anyone about to begin such volunteer work credit programs, these arrangements should really be made before you begin your project work.

Hi, Just for clarity -- would the zooniverse team acknowledge my involvement if an organization sends an email to contact@zooniverse.org if I am truly involved as evidenced by my classifications/hours?

Hi- According to the DOE website, the assessor can be anyone within the description (no relatives, for example). It does not have to be anyone on Zooniverse.

Basic information and FAQs

Choosing Assessors

"An Assessor checks on your progress and agrees the completion of a section of your programme. They must be independent and over the age of 18. Therefore, they cannot be a member of your family."

"An Assessor can be anyone who is interested in helping you to achieve, has some knowledge of the activity you are doing and can be available over the time you’re doing it. They will produce or sign off the relevant Assessor’s report for that section, which is uploaded into eDofE."

"From the local football club coach to a charity shop manager, from the neighbour who’s a web designer to the conservation expert leading a residential week, just about anyone can be an Assessor for the Volunteering, Physical, Skills and Residential sections."

"Because of the nature of expeditions, there are slightly different rules in place for Expedition Assessors."

If you are struggling to find Assessors, talk to your DofE Leader.

"The Assessor should have knowledge of the activity being undertaken and be aware of your objectives. Give them the relevant sectional Assessor’s card from your Welcome Pack. The Assessor should also be available at key stages throughout your experience in order to assess your contribution and development."

"Once a section is complete the Assessor will meet with you to discuss your performance, experiences and achievements.

The Assessor will also decide whether you have met the DofE requirements – that you’ve demonstrated effort, perseverance, improvement and made progress towards your section goals. This information, along with comments from the Assessor, should be recorded on the Assessor’s report which can be submitted online."

Hello Laura,

I have sent an email to you @trouille as my DofE leader has stated that an assessor report is required in addition to the certificate.
Thank you

Perhaps they sent their email to a contact address for the project they worked on, rather than to the Zooniverse.

I concur about the "peeking" portion of underline: if I mouse over any @ user id, my browser shows the correct URL for the user (no stray dot). And for me too, notifications have been working normally.

My understanding is that that is not a '.' but instead it's the other side of the underline peaking out from underneath the '@' symbol.

I haven't noticed the notifications not working; meaning, I'm getting notifications as expected from Talk threads and haven't seen posts of that not working recently.

(My message above to bluepenguin was that I didn't see any emails from them and their message noted they emailed twice).

@trouille Why is a . appearing at the beginning of all @ addresses here in this discussion (and perhaps in all Talk discussions)? Have I missed an update notice or is it a glitch that might affect delivery of such flag messages?

My apologies @bluepenguin1 I checked my own email address and contact@zooniverse.org and don't see anything from the address associated with your account. Could you send an email today to contact@zooniverse.org and I'll follow up? Thanks!

No reply here yet, but here is a link for Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) project assessor selection:

@trouille Please consider a way to make clear that assessors are no longer part of the certificate process. I am hearing from students working on their Duke of Edinburgh projects who still are required to provide an assessor's name for verification of hours. Perhaps contact could be made directly with the D of E programme with that information? Please note that many of these students are facing a dramatic decrease in anticipated credit with the change from classification tallies to hours spent.

Would be nice to see the number of classifications on the certificate, I think this is much more valuable than the elapsed time I've been sitting on the classification pages (at least I assume that's what's shown).

E.g To my mind, I classified 50 items is much more valuable to know than I took two hours to do one item.

Classical project management always differentiates between earned value and effort.

My apologies for not looping back here earlier in the fall. Please see https://blog.zooniverse.org/2024/10/01/fulfilling-service-hour-requirements-through-zooniverse-2/. Thank you! Don't hesitate to reach out here or at contact@zooniverse.org with any questions.

Your certificate is now available without going through the project teams, but that assumes there is no need for an assessor. The individual project team would need to help you with identifying an assessor. If (for example) you are working on Penguin Watch please use the contact email posted on Penguin Watch:
contact@penguinwatch.org and explain what your programme requires. Researchers are usually extremely busy, so do please be clear about your needs and time schedule, and do allow plenty of time.

@trouille thanks for the info I am still trying to get an assessor assigned for the DofE volunteering requirements. Do you know how I can do this so my DofE leader has the information? thank you
